I really enjoy making useful ceramics. I think, plan, look for solutions… But even more recently, I have been drawn to creating something that has a story. Glide along the clay and observe how the shape and structure of the piece changes under my hands. Normally I just put on a podcast or some good music and start from scratch. No plan, or time restrictions.
And for me, that is pure joy.
My forest creatures came to be out of pure spontaneity. It started on the new year's eve, which was spent by me and Robi (my husband) in moulding clay at the dinner table. an evening, which could easily be wasted depressively watching a TV program for example 😊. We meditated in our own creations, each in their own buble, and connected in commenting on the music of our youth that we were listening to.
Soon after that evening, I was called by the second, then third forest being and so on. By march, when Robi and I had a joint exhibition in Kanal ob Soči (Kanal on river Soča), there were seven. These really are special beings, so childish and naive, generous and shy. With secretive smiles, and playful feelers invite you into the world of imagination. All of them are made from clay, but fired at different temperatures, and are therefore different shades. With this, they send a message to the world that we are indeed different in our appearance, our emotions and reactions. Some are drowning in their feelings of inferiority, others in the rapture of superiority, and we all get on eachothers nerves sometimes. But we must never forget that at the end of the day we are all made of the same stuff. Lets respect that!
When I take our dog for early morning walks, we always say hello to all of my trees along our path, and finish up in a small magical forest. It’s so diverse and varied that I notice something new every day. Changing of the seasons, an interesting boulder that I’ve never noticed before, hearing the footsteps of a deer that is slowly retreating from us… One day walking through that forest, I got an idea that it could temporarily accommodate my forest beings. And now every morning, my heart sings in anticipation when I approach that forest . And every morning we greet each other, happy and thankful, that we awoke another day.
